The 7th Grade Lady Bears traveled to Randolph Southern for the Randolph Southern/Union City Invitational and returned home as champions, defeating Daleville 19-14 and Union City 31-8 in the championship game. In the first game, the young Bears got off to a slow start offensively but were able to keep the game close with their defense. MC kept the Broncos scoreless in the second quarter and never looked back. Balanced scoring was led by Delainee Whitehead with 9, Scarlett Davis and Remmie Morrison with 4 each and Alayna Dickson with 1. Mabrey Cheesman led the team in hustle plays and added 1 point as well. In the Championship match, the Bears got off to a hot start and never looked back, jumping out to a 12-1 lead after the first quarter and again holding their opponent scoreless is the second. Good ball movement, unselfish play and quick transition was the difference maker for MC offensively. Mabrey Cheesman and Delainee Whitehead led the defensive effort, with all 12 girls contributing with proper defensive positioning. Another balanced scoring effort was led by Remmie Morrison with 10, Emma Croyle with 7, Amelia Brown and Delainee Whitehead with 4 and Scarlett Davis and Jazmyn Ford with 2 each. After resting and recharging over Christmas break, the Lady Bears will host Tri on January 6th. GO BEARS!!!
